“Ho sake to isme zindagi beeta do, pal jo ye jaane wala hai….”
Stuck in the traffic of a big city, music is the only escape from your frustration and stress. After waiting in the traffic for nearly fifteen minutes, I got bored and so I tuned in to the radio. A beautiful song, “Aane wala pal, jaane wala hai…” from the old classic movie Golmal was being played.
The music, the voice, and the soulful lyrics filled my car with a beautiful rhythm and my heart was swinging to it. My rhythm of peace was abruptly disturbed by loud noise of surrounding horns. I have always failed to understand the reason for blowing horns in the traffic unnecessarily; the traffic doesn’t speed up and besides the mental peace gets disrupted.
Amidst the noise of traffic horns, I couldn’t concentrate on the beautiful song; and thus I had to turn it off to prevent my brain from being blown up. However, my mind was humming the lyrics of the song and as the traffic progressed gradually, I realized that this moment is passing with me.
I looked around. Everyone (including me) in their cars, cabs, on their bikes was trying hard to look forward and get past each other. No one cared whether or not they are in the correct lane, or are they causing any inconvenience to anyone, or are they contributing to the part of the solution or to the part of the problem. And then I thought, are we supposed to live our lives like this?
Everyone is aware of the term “Living in the Moment”, and yet no one can inculcate it fully, not even me. The questions and worries of future, and the grudges of the past haunt us constantly. Unable to enjoy what is presently given, we invite stress and frustration to ourselves. It is very difficult to live in the moment, especially when you can see your insecure future.
But the clock is ticking, and time isn’t waiting for anyone! We find ourselves struggling between the two sides: to live the present life happily without future worries or to spoil the present to create a better future. This very moment you are living, is controlled by a very strong force of the Universe: your mind. How you spend this moment depends on your perception of things.
